Rail asset health platform
One source of truth for rail fault data, with alarms reaching the platform in seconds instead of minutes.
The problem
Faults on rail assets were logged in an ageing in-house application. Fault reports were duplicated and inconsistent, and there was no single register of rolling stock and wayside assets.
What we did
- Owned the solution architecture with the client's rail subject matter experts, from problem definition and design through build, validation and handover.
- Built data pipelines that bring in alarm and fault data from the control systems, a standardised fault log, and a central asset register covering rolling stock and wayside assets.
- Delivered applications on top of the data for the workshops, including out-of-service dashboards, asset status management, live train control data and collaboration tools.
- Mentored the client's developers on the platform through pairing, code reviews and knowledge transfer.
The result
- Alarm data now reaches the platform within seconds, down from more than 10 minutes, after working with several teams across the business.
- One source of truth for asset health, with less manual data entry, more consistent data and faster fault recovery.
- A foundation built for reliability analytics and AI-assisted fault diagnosis, with AI features now in development.
